    Hi,

I am currently building my first home in Greenvale Gardens
Victoria and when I last went onsite my contractor had installed a security
    door to the front.

During the planning it was never brought to our attention
(or noted on drawings) that there would be a front security door. I have asked
the contractor to remove it. However, they have advised that without the door
we won’t get our certificate of occupancy and told us to remove it after we
have moved in (and damage the door frame).

My understanding is that all that is required to the front
door is a seal around the door frame so fire embers cannot enter. Not a single
other house has a security door on the estate and they are subject to the same
regulations so I have to assume I am right in this case.

Can you please confirm whether the security door is required
or not so I can go back to our builder with what is actually required?

I am happy to receive a phone or email response.

    Thank-you.

Elise, this is an unusual story. The security door would not normally form part of the C of O. It may be required because you have a front door that does not meet the bushfire requlations, and the security door is acting as a screen in front of the door.
